Preparation and characterization of epoxidized natural rubber/nanosilica nanocomposites

چکیده
Epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) with different epoxide contents (i.e., 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 mol% indicated as ENR-5, ENR-10, ENR-15, ENR-20 and ENR-25, respectively) were prepared. They were then reinforced with modified nanosilica (APS-SiO₂). Thermal analysis (TGA/DTG), spectroscopy, infrared (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) examined the dispersion and interaction of nano silica with natural epoxy rubber. The results showed that the ring opening reaction occurs between the epoxy groups of ENR chains and Si-OH groups on silica surfaces and covalent bonds are formed between the two phases which can improve the dispersion of silica in the rubber matrix and increase the surface composition between rubber and silica Therefore, it can be said that epoxy natural rubber (ENR) can be used as an adapter in nano silica filled natural rubber.
