چکیده
Although micro and nano reinforcements might lead to different mechanical properties in polymeric composites, simultaneous addition of various fillers might contribute to several competing or synergistic effects. No studies so far have reported carbon black (CB)/graphite nanoplatelets (GNP) filled hybrid nanocomposites of low density polyethylene base. This study reported the effect of addition of 0 to 5 wt% of CB and GNP on the overall elastic response of hybrid nanocomposite sheets processed by calendering process. Thermal behavior of the fabricated parts was examined on the differential scanning calorimetric. The results exhibited the positive effect of addition of CB into GNP based nanocomposites when 2.5 wt% of each filler was used. The findings further illustrated a 5 ͦC reduction in the melting temperature of the specimens in the case of 2.5 wt% CB/GNP confirming the crystallites thickness reduction enhancing the tensile properties. The results also were correlated to the favorable effect of CBs on the dispersion state of GNPs as a positive modifier. The study suggested CBs as a replacement for GNP particles when economical and processing concerns need to be taken into consideration.
