Synthesis, characterization and crystal structures of a symmetric Schiff base ligand: N,N''''-bis(salicylidene)-1,2-bis-(o-aminophenoxy) ethane

چکیده
The title symmetric Schiff base compound, N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,2-bis-(o-aminophenoxy) ethane (H2L), is derived from the reaction of 1,2-bis(o-aminophenoxy)ethane with salicylaldehyde in a methanol solution and have been characterized by FT-IR, NMR and mass spectrometry. Structure of (H2L) is established by single crystal X-ray analysis. The IR spectra of H2L shows a bond at 1617 cm-1 which is related to imine. Also, no bands attributable to a C=O and N─H stretching vibrations are detected which indicates that condensation has occurred. The ligand (H2L) shows a strong hydrogen bond in phenolic hydrogens according to the NMR deshielding due to their shift in the higher field and absence of the O─H band in IR spectra which in agreement with the X-ray crystal analysis.
