Investigation of the effect of silica nanoparticles on the performance of polyvinyl chloride based membranes

چکیده
Membrane processes are always considered as one of the water purification methods. In this study, the effect of silica nanoparticles on the performance of polyvinyl chloride-based membranes was investigated. Silica nanoparticles in three quantities; 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7% were added to the polymeric structure of the membranes. Membranes were made using phase inversion method and immersion technique in non-solvent bath. In order to investigate the effect of silica nanoparticles on membranes function, the amount of water flux and the concentration of calcium ions after nanofiltration were measured for each membrane. The results showed that the addition of nanoparticles to the membrane structure improved water flux and ion rejection from the membranes. The highest membrane flux was obtained at a concentration of 0.3% by weight of nanoparticles and the highest membrane efficiency was obtained at a concentration of 0.5% by weight of nanoparticles.
